The prime interest of the exhibition of Marine Photography International is to encourage a greater interest in the creation of documentary and artistic maritime photographs. Judging from the entries submitted in the Ninth Annual event it is felt this aim have been achieved.
387 monochrome prints were submitted and 92 prints were accepted for hanging. Fifty of the accepted prints were selected to be shown in a special exhibition of marine photos at the Smithsonian Institution, Washington DC
The panel of judges consisted of Edward L. Bafford, FPSA, Captain Quentell Violett, USNR. and John Moll.
Francis Wu of Hong Kong has 3 prints in this exhibition and the print “Clam Catcher” was also shown at the Smithsonian Institution.
